Blaze Cup

Sat., Nov 7 2009, David Chin's Meditation and Training Center, Eastover, NC, USA: In a stunning victory, Henry Gardiner retains the Blaze Cup, defeating a creative Mike Nelson in the best of five fall final match.  Gardiner won the annual push hands competition with his fajing technique, besting a field of 13 in a single elimination format.

Grandmaster David Chin and Sifu Chris Heintzman  presided with honored guests.  Sifu Russell Therrien officiated, with vigorous assistance from the  crowd.  Former cupholders Charles 'Blaze' Marino and George Pauly competed but did not advance to the final rounds.

Gardiner is a student in Sifu Carlan Steward's martial arts school in Sacramento, CA.

The ISOYA push hands competition was first contested in 2006.   It is now an annual event held in conjunction with the ISOYA Fall Intensive.

Fall 2009 Intensive

You are cordially invited to the third annual International Original Yang Tai Chi Association and International Sin Tien Wu Chi Qi Gong Association fall retreat to be held November 5 through 8.  This four day intensive is by invitation only and for those who have practiced Sin Tien Wu Chi Qi Gong or Original Yang (aka Guang Ping) Tai Chi Chuan.

The event will take place in rural North Carolina at Grandmaster David Chin’s school and home. The price of the four day weekend is $400.00 and  includes the seminar training, 2 meals a day, and lodging.  Participants who need to fly in will be picked up and dropped off at the airport. Those flying should plan to fly into Fayetteville Airport and not Raleigh Durham. Two meals will be provided each day and the third will be at a local restaurant for an additional cost - it may be for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.  Lodging will be in the school – an air conditioned 40x60 steel building with shower and bathroom facility.  There are also local hotels that people may choose to stay in.  This will be another tremendous opportunity to work with peers from across the country practicing these two incredible systems as well as to gain great insight from Grandmaster Chin.  If you have not had the opportunity to train with G.M. Chin in this way, it will be a beautiful eye opener and for those of you who have, you know the fire.

The curriculum for this four day event will include many aspects of the Sin Tien system as passed down from Taoist Master Loui Jing-Yun as well as the Original Yang system as passed down by Master Kuo Lien-Ying.  We will again be dividing the groups for some of the exercises (this will be dependent on the number attending).  For those who have not had experience in one system or the other, it will not be appropriate for you to jump ahead. In addition, those who are working on the first Original Yang form will have the goal of completing this form.  Those of you who attended the Spring 2009 Intensive were introduced to Level 5 of the Sin Tien Wu Chi system, Spiritual Animal Qigong.  This fall, Sifu Chin will take us deeper with Level 5 practice - something very special to look forward to.  We will also be able to do more work with the wood block strength training.

There will be a Level One and Level Two Certification Testing for the Sin Tien Wu Chi system conducted on Saturday for those that qualify. Once certified, candidates will be level one instructors and can then begin teaching this part of the system. The test will be straight forward – be able to lead the class through level one exercises, meditation and tai chi and have understanding of the basic theories. i.e.. what does Sin Tien Wu Chi Qi Gong translate to?  This fall there will also be the opportunity to test for certification in the Original Yang Tai Chi form.  Saturday evening we will have a celebration of new instructors and any other promotions. Please contact Sifu Heintzman by phone or email if interested in testing for either system.

The International Sin Tien Wu Chi Qi Gong & Original Yang Tai Chi Association

The International Sin Tien Wu Chi Qi Gong & Original Yang Tai Chi Association (ISOYA) is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the teachings of Grandmaster David Chin.  Its mission is to reach out and educate the public on both the value and health benefits of Original Yang (aka Guang Ping) Tai Chi and Qi Gong.

Tai Chi is renowned for its health benefits as a low-impact, weight-bearing form of exercise.  The Mayo Clinic states that “tai chi uses gentle flowing movements to reduce the stress of today's busy lifestyles and improve health.”

Health Benefits of Tai Chi

Tai Chi health benefits include improved overall physical condition, as well as increased muscle strength, coordination, balance, and flexibility.  Tai Chi’s health benefits are a central reason why it continues to grow in popularity, especially with senior practitioners.

Ongoing studies by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) are still revealing new health benefits of Tai Chi, and how it helps for a variety of diseases and conditions through its slow, low-impact exercise. 2

The Original Yang system taught by Grandmaster Chin is the system passed down by Master Kuo Lien-Ying.

Health Benefits of Qi Gong

Sin Tien Wuji Qi Gong promotes health by circulating the energy throughout the body.

Recent research has revealed numerous health benefits from Qi Gong.  Researchers from the University of California, Irvine, have confirmed and extended studies on how Qi Gong is effective in refreshing and relaxing the mind and body. 1
